Military Research

The focus of the research performed by the Adelaide Node is in health and human performance of ADF personnel and veterans.   In conjunction with the Discipline of Public Health at the University of Adelaide, the Adelaide Node has completed a number of Defence research projects in such areas as:

  • Oberon Submarine Health Hazard Review
  • Military Aircraft Turbine Fuel Health Effects Study
  • Review of health effects of airborne particulate on ADF personnel in the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO)
  • Several health effects and risk assessment studies for DSTO
  • Numerous studies into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

The CMVH welcomes inquiries from students wishing to undertake PhD with subjects available in the area of post traumatic stress and in other areas by negotiation with the director.

Middle East Area of Operations Deployed Health Surveillance Program (MEAO DHSP)

The Node is currently leading the Middle East Area of Operations Deployed Health Surveillance Program.  This longitudinal study will evaluate the relationship between potential health hazard exposures and health outcomes in personnel deployed by the ADF to the MEAO between 2001 and 2007 and beyond. The program is expected to deliver a range of benefits including better information on exposures, evaluation of preventive practices, improved timeliness in providing benefits to veterans and better quality reporting to community and Government on post-deployment health.  This will be the largest and most significant study of its kind ever performed in Australia.
