Welcome to the School of Medical Sciences
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the School of Medical Sciences. With 29 academic staff, 19 professional support staff, 52 clinical and affiliate title-holders and over 30 research students from a variety of countries, the School offers a dynamic research-intensive environment that nurtures the development of our students to their full potential, and fosters excellence in interdisciplinary research and teaching. Located over 4 floors in the Medical School North Building, the School of Medical Sciences encompasses the disciplines of Anatomical Sciences, Pathology and Pharmacology. As such, the teaching and research within the school focuses on:
- investigating the morphology of the human body at the macroscopic and microscopic levels to illustrate how structure relates to function;
- understanding the causes and mechanisms of disease and its consequences;
- establishing how drugs may be used to improve health and quality of life, as medicines to treat and prevent diseases or, as a research tool to further explore the function of the human body.
Together, these disciplines provide the foundation for careers in medicine, dentistry and the allied health sciences.
I invite you to visit the pages of the individual disciplines to discover the exciting research and teaching programs that are available in the School, and contact some of the excellent staff that would mentor you through the learning process.
