Bachelor of Health Sciences & HonoursA major in Public Health can be taken as part of the Award of the Bachelor of Health Sciences (B.Health Sc.). The major aims to provide students with a broad-based education covering all the main disciplines required for a Public Health career. More information about the Bachelor of Health Sciences can be found at Students complete a major in public health by incorporating the following courses into their Bachelor of Health Sciences program: At level 1: Public Health IA (Pub Hlth 1001) (semester 1) and Public Health IB (Pub Hlth 1002) (semester 2).
Bachelor of Health Sciences students with a major in Public Health may also proceed to Honours in Public Health. This is a fourth year of study open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree and who have demonstrated an aptitude for academic work in Public Health. It consists of two elective courses and a thesis.
A published survey of all graduates from the Bachelor of Health Sciences from 1992-99 who had majored in public health can be read here (pdf 45kB). A high proportion found employment in the public health workforce. Electives from the Public Health program can be taken as part of the program for the M.B.,B.S.
