Postgraduate Public Health Coursework Awards
The Discipline's postgraduate programs in public health are intended to equip graduates for careers in public health or to broaden the public health orientation of their current work for those with established careers. The programs aim to stimulate students to think creatively about the distribution and causes of health and illness in populations, and about policies and practices that support and improve the health of people. The programs are well known to the South Australian Department of Health, the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, as well as the Public Health Association of Australia, the Faculty of Public Health Medicine and other relevant public health bodies.

Here's what MPH alumni have said about the program:
MICK SMITH
Deputy Chief Officer
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN METROPOLITAN FIRE SERVICE
Completing the MPH at the University of Adelaide has brought me recognition as an expert in public safety within the Metropolitan Fire Service. I have effectively championed safety, welfare and health as key issues for the service and the community, developing services such as the peer support program and enhancing the community safety department. I have led the move within the fire service from response to prevention. I have also been involved with the development of international personal protective equipment standards for workers and firefighters. My MPH studies have given me methods to analyse problems and the confidence to seek better solutions.
LEN TURCZYNOWICZ
Principal Risk Assessor
Coffey Environments
The MPH at the University of Adelaide provided me with a different perspective of public health across a range of discipline areas and facilitated my work in the Environmental Health Branch, SA Department of Health at that time. It allowed me to gain valuable knowledge across important areas that I could directly apply such as environmental epidemiology and statistical application and interpretation of relevant data. It provided me with a strong basis for critical review of published research papers important in my current area of professional activity. It also allowed me to become aquainted with a range of allied professionals and the talented academic staff of the School of Population Health and Clinical Practice. Since my graduation I have maintained professional relationships with the latter and am currently pursuing doctoral studies within the same School. The MPH contributed to my being offered a position as Principal Risk Assessor, Coffey Environments, a national position within this international company.
