- Properties of visceral and somatic nerves
- Pharmacology of visceral neurones and smooth muscle

- Novel gastrointestinal transmitters and drugs
- Drug discovery and development
Current interests: investigating functional alterations in human colonic motility
and sensory function in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and characterising novel
compounds which might have therapeutic potential towards the treatment of conditions
associated with hypermotility or hypersensitivity of the bowel. Current research
has centred on the characterisation of cannabinoid drugs as targets modulating
colonic motility and inflammation.
Techniques utilised: isolated tissue pharmacology, electrophysiological and
immunohistochemical studies.
- Teaching: Pharmacology and toxicology teaching to undergraduate
second and third year sciences and nursing students. Coordinator for pharmacology
teaching within 3rd year Science Program.
Previous teaching experience: pharmacology & toxicology, clinical biochemistry,
clinical dietetics, human nutrition, cell biology. Honours Program Coordinator
and supervisor.
