- Research: Assoc. Professor Robert Ali is a consultant public
health physician who is a graduate from Adelaide Medical School. He has been
working in the drug and alcohol field since 1985 and is currently the Director
of Clinical Services Research at the Drug & Alcohol Services South Australia
and head of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Research
in Treatment of Drug & Alcohol Problems. He is a Fellow of the Australasian
Chapter of Addiction Medicine in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Robert has assisted the World Health Organisation through his participation
in committees including the Expert Working Party on the Health Implications
of Cannabis Use, the Committee on Drug Substitution Therapies, the Evaluation
of the Swiss Scientific Studies on Medically Prescribed Narcotics to Dependent
Drug Users and he chaired the WHO meeting on Amphetamines, MDMA and other
Psychostimulants. He is a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Drug
Dependence and Alcohol Problems and is Project coordinator for two World Health
Organisation projects entitled " WHO Collaborative Study on Substitution
Therapy of Opioid Dependence and HIV/AIDS " and " The Alcohol, Smoking
and Substance Involvement Screening Test ". Robert is member of the Cochrane
Alcohol and Drug Group editorial board.
