Who we are:
Postgraduate students in the Discipline of Pharmacology come
from very diverse backgrounds, including physiology, biotech, psychology, pharmacy,
chemistry, medicine and nursing. Our research areas are just as diverse,
and may be laboratory based or clinical, and may even involve a combination of
these.

Where we end up:
Postgraduate study in Pharmacology can lead to many exciting
opportunities. Just as our backgrounds and research projects are varied,
so are the paths that we can take following postgraduate study and beyond.
During the course of a PhD, a postgraduate student has the opportunity to travel
to international conferences to present their findings and to visit international
research institutes. This provides an excellent opportunity to meet fellow
researchers and respected leaders in the field, and to secure postdoctoral fellowships
overseas. Many PhD graduates from Pharmacology have followed this course,
and secured positions all over the world, including Europe, the United Kingdom
and the USA. Recently, one of our PhD graduates was awarded the prestigious
CJ Martin Fellowship to carry out research in Germany.
Other graduates choose to stay in Australia, and have many career options available,
including work within both the public and private sector, working in research
laboratories or institutes, postdoctoral fellowships and lectureships, and positions
in a clinical setting.
For more information on possible careers, visit our careers page.

Scholarships held:
There are many scholarships that postgraduate students within
the Discipline of Pharmacology may be eligible for. Our postgraduate students
have won many scholarships, including the National Health and Medical Research
Council Dora Lush Postgraduate Research Scholarship, the Royal Adelaide Hospital
Dawes Scholarship, the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), as well as University
of Adelaide scholarships. For more information about scholarships that may
be available to you, visit University
of Adelaide Postgraduate Scholarships.
