Validation

The validation of the gas equations used in this program is a complex procedure.

First of all the underlying equations need to be checked for mathematical accuracy.  This is accomplished by entering a series of input variables and checking the results with values calculated using a different system (in this case values generated on an Excel spreadsheet.

Low level validation of acid base equations can be found here.

Equilibration

When 2 volumes of blood are mixed we need to know the content of gasses in the two volumes to calculate the content of gas in the resulting mixture.  When a volume of blood equilibrates with a gas at a particular pressure we need to determine what the final content of gas will be in that volume of blood.

The next part of this project will outline models for these processes.  Watch this space!
