The Programs below are offered through distance education.
The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters level programs are designed
to provide opportunities for Registered Nurses to develop advanced skills in specialist
nursing practice. Programs can be undertaken in either full-time or part-time
modes of study.

Apheresis Nursing
A program of study designed to enhance the theoretical base and clinical skills
of the registered nurse working in an apheresis clinical setting.more

Evidence Based Nursing
This program is for registered nurses involved in clinical practice, quality management
or clinical administration. It introduces issues related to identifying the evidence
for practice, practice change and evaluation.more

Infection Control Nursing
This is a program for infection control nurses and other nurses with an interest
in this area of practice. It provides a rigorous grounding in the essential knowledge
related to infection control, microbiology and epidemiology.more

Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science
Acute Care Nursing
This is a generic plan covering a varied number of practice settings. It has a
common core to all surgical, medical and high acuity sub-specialties.more

Burns Nursing
One of the few university-based programs available, provides an opportunity for
registered nurses involved in the care of people with burn injuries to explore
aspects of advanced clinical practice.more

This is a specialist program for registered nursing working in the community or
a district nursing organisation that explores a number of different aspects of
advanced

Master of Nursing Science
The Master of Nursing Science is an academic program that is designed to provide
opportunities for nurses to develop advanced skills in clinical inquiry, practice
and leadership in professional nursing. The program provides graduates with rigorous
grounding in research methods, critical analysis, clinical management and leadership
and theoretical perspectives that inform nursing.
Students will graduate with a sound knowledge of a broad range of research
methodologies and methods; the ability to design and conduct a research project
in a rigorous and ethical manner; the skills to critically evaluate research and
make informed decisions for practice change when appropriate; the ability to work
as an effective member of a research team; and be a critical and informed thinker
regarding issues related to nursing and health.
The Master of Nursing Science is an external program that utilises flexible
delivery methods of teaching including distance learning packages in printed form,
electronic methods based around the internet and direct support from course coordinators
and supervisors via email.
The Master of Nursing Science has a range of study options that ensures the
program meets the learning needs of individual students. These study options allow
students to negotiate the structure of their program, from a coursework only program
to one with a research component. more

Flexible Learning Unit
The Department has a Flexible Learning Unit to provide appropriate support
for students undertaking their study by distance (external) education. Study material
and readings are posted to students at the beginning of each semester and this
material is supplemented with direct contact with program coordinators via email.
