Attendance at classes.

It is compulsory for students to attend all class meetings, laboratory and clinical sessions Dental Learning Packages and tutorials, unless specifically indicated otherwise by the Stream Coordinator. The curriculum has been designed with the assumption that students will attend all scheduled sessions.
If students are not able attend one of their classes, they must inform the Dental School Office AND Clinic Receptionist of their absence. The School should be notified by phone or email on the day of the absence BEFORE the class commences. If the absence is due to illness, medical certificate(s) and documentation from a medical practitioner must then be forwarded to the Associate Dean (Undergraduate School) or the Executive Officer within 7 days of the absence. Details about the documentation required are provided under at the Supplementary Exam webpage, under Medical Supplementary requests.  If there are other reasons for an absence, they should be provided when the School is first contacted, then confirmed in writing and forwarded to the Associate Dean (Undergraduate School) or the Executive Officer within 7 days.
Students are advised that they will have considerable difficulty in achieving a satisfactory level in the formal assessment activities without a full commitment to attendance and participation. If students miss classes without obtaining permission they may be precluded from sitting for written examinations.

Students missing classes without a medical certificate or other valid reason Academic and clinical staff will notify the Associate Dean (Undergraduate School) if students are missing from classes. If a student misses two or more classes without notifying the School (as above) and/or does not provide appropriate documentation including medical certificate(s) or other valid reason(s), the Associate Dean (Undergraduate School) will write a warning letter to the student pointing out the School's policy on attendance and indicating that if the student misses more classes he/she may be precluded from the end-of-semester exams. If the student then misses another class without notifying the School and/or providing reasons and documentation, the Associate Dean (Undergraduate School) will write to the student informing them that a recommendation will be put to the Student Review Committee that the student be precluded from sitting for end-of-semester or end-of-year examinations. The student will be given an opportunity to provide any relevant information to the Student Review Committee to assist it in its deliberations. Students precluded from sitting for end-of-semester or end-of-year examinations will be deemed to have failed the year.
