Professor Grant Townsend was recently awarded the title of Corresponding Member of the Finnish Dental Society Apollonia, at a special President’s Dinner in his honour in Helsinki, Finland.  The prestigious award is made to researchers who have contributed substantially to dental research in Finland through their collaborations with Finnish scientists. Dr Eleanor Parker, Young Professional of the Year 2007. Professions Australia has announced that the 2007 Young Professional of the Year has been awarded to Dr Eleanor Parker. Dr Parker was nominated by the Australian Dental Association and was chosen as this year’s award recipient from a very strong field of nominations. The award is certainly recognition for the significant role Dr Parker has played in establishing a dental service within the Pika Wiya Health Service as part of the oral health program for the Aboriginal Community in Port Augusta. Dr Helen James has been awarded a Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal in recognition of her work in Thailand following the Tsunami in December 2004. Following the Tsunami a number of specialists from South Australia Police, Forensic Science SA and the Forensic Odontology Unit worked with members of the Australian Federal Police as part of the Disaster Victim Identification team. This award is in recognition of exceptional humanitarian service provided during this time. Helen was presented with her award at a Ceremony on 22nd November at Fort Largs; the Dean also attended this ceremony. 

Associate Professor Tracey Winning has been named as a joint winner of the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching 2006.  This award is usually presented to a single individual selected from the winners of the Stephen Cole the Elder Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
