Jane graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Major in Anatomy and Psychology)
from the University of Adelaide and continued her studies in Biological
Anthropology in the Department of Anatomical Sciences. She received an
Honours Degree in Biological Anthropology completing the thesis titled
"Quantitative Assessment of the Influence of Heredity and the Environment
on Dermatoglyphic Characteristics Amongst Australian Females" under
the supervision of Professor Maciej Henneberg.
Among her duties are
- The organisation of annual anthropometric surveys for longitudinal
growth studies in the South Australian Aboriginal Communities of Gerard
and Raukkan, and Yuendumu, Northern Territory
- The supervision of the individual research projects of 3rd Year Biological
Anthropology students, CSIRO Student Research Project students,
- Work experience in the Department of Anatomical Sciences of secondary
students
- Custodian of the Departmental Biological Anthropology library and
measuring instruments
- Closely collaborates with Professor Maciej Henneberg in administrive
duties and research
Research Interests
Dermatoglyphics (heritiablity of fingerprints, and also their role as
predictors of genetic disorders), forensic psychology and forensic anthropology.
Other Contributions
Webmaster of the American
Dermatoglyphic Association (member since 2000) and the Australasian
Society for Human Biology (member since 1999).
Associate editor of the book titled "Causes and Effects of Human
Variation"
Assisted with skeletal anthropological research in Pompeii and Paestum,
Italy.
Organised the 14th Annual Conference of the Australasian Society for Human
Biology.
Supervised and organised fingerprinting workshops for gifted and talented
children and the fingerprinting activities for the University of Adelaide
open day.
