ANBP2 Presentations

Progress on ANBP2 has been presented to the Royal Australian College of Physicians Annual Scientific Meeting in Perth in October and also to the High Blood Pressure Research Council Meeting held in Melbourne in December 1996. Oral presentations were delivered to these two societies and the response to the presentations has been positive. In addition, the first publication related to the subject (the Study Protocol Paper) has been accepted and is ready for publication in the Australian Scientific Journal, Clinical and Experimental Physiology and Pharmacology.

ANBP2 Video Release

A video has been produced regarding the Second Australian National Blood Pressure Study and is available upon request from registered practitioners through our toll free number. The purpose of the video is to present important aspects of the protocol, underline the relevant issues related to the conduct of ANBP2 and to reinforce the essential end-point monitoring aspects of the Study. Whilst the video is geared to enhance our practitioner recruitment in the project, it will also be a valuable resource as an ongoing reminder for those already involved. Please feel free to call our toll free number if you would like to receive one of these videos.

Who's Who in ANBP2

Helen Miles, Research Manager
ANBP2 Data Management Centre

I grew up in Victoria and graduated from Melbourne University in Microbiology. In those days jobs were there for the taking and I worked in the Microbiology Lab. at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne. When in Melbourne recently, I discovered that those buildings have been demolished!

Along with my family, I have travelled and lived in various parts of the world. I was introduced to the exciting and inter-esting area of medical research in Papua New Guinea, going out to remote villages collecting inform-ation and data and learning to improvise when necessary! For the past two decades I have been with the Department of Community Medicine and now the Department of General Practice, University of Adelaide, working as a research officer on many and varied research studies and clinical trials. All of these studies have been conducted within General Practice in Adelaide and country South Australia. The experience gained over this time has only increased my interest in the development of research studies.

Being part of the development and implementation of a study and seeing it take on a life of its own is very satisfying and rewarding. I am very pleased to be involved with ANBP2 and enjoy working with a great team which has been built up all around Australia. ANBP2 has certainly taken on a very lively and unique life of its own! When not in working mode, I enjoy theatre, music, bush walking and my 6 (so far) grandchildren spread around Australia.
